To Dissolve Copper from Gold
Articles
Take 2 ounces of
proto-sulphate of iron and dissolve it in ½ a pint of water, then add to it
in powder 2 ounces of
nitrate of potash; boil the mix are for some time, and
afterwards pour it into a shallow vessel to cool and crystallize;
then to
every part of the (crystallized) salt add 8 ounces of muiatic acid, and
preserve in a bottle for use. Equal
parts, of the above preparation and of
boiling water is a good proportion to use in dissolving copper, or 1 part by
weight of nitric acid may be used to 4 parts by weight of boiling water as a
substitute.
