The following is a
good four-hour varnish:
Coumarone
resin
.. 100 pounds
China wood oil
.. 35 gallons
V.M. & P, naphtha
40 gallons
Lead-cobalt-manganese drier...1/10% metal based on oil
Cook the oil to 550°
F, together with ½ the coumarone, keep at this temperature for 30 minutes;
check with the remainder of the coumarone, when cool enough, add the V.M, &
P. naphtha and drier.
