Bismuth nitrate………………..…………      230 grains
Tartaric acid………………….………….         75 grains
Water…………………………………….      100 minims

Dissolve the acid in the water, and to the solution add the bismuth nitrate and stir until dissolved. Pour resulting solution into 1 pint of water and collect the magma on a filter. Remove all traces of acid from the magma by repeated washing with water; then dissolve it in:

Ammonia water…………………….....…         2 fluidrachms
And add:
Glycerine……………………………...….       20 minims
Sodium hyposulphite……………..…..…       75 grains
Water, enough to make……………...…         4 fluidounces
